Traditional Aran Polo Neck sweater

This Irish Aran turtleneck, available in natural and charcoal, is made in Ireland and is 100% Soft Merino Wool. It can be worn by both women and men and will keep you warm throughout the cold winter days. This Aran jumper wonderfully combines functionality and warmth, resulting in a stylish yet hard wearing classic that will last for years. It follows all the Traditional Irish stitching patterns that have been passed down from generation to generation, which in olden days told stories of families and life in Ireland. This jumper tells an Irish story through knitting.

    • Along the centre panel of the body the honeycomb Aran stitch flows, signifying the hard working bee or the hard work of a fisherman.
    • On either side of this centre panelling there are rows of Irish cable stitches resembling the fishermans ropes, the link to life.
    • Delivery time 2-10 working days (Irish Post)

    Care Guide

While our sweaters are a great choice, because they are warm and durable, proper care should be always taken to protect your garment. We recommend all of our sweaters and wool garments are gently hand washed with a mild wool detergent, reshaped by hand and dried flat. If soaked for too long, the wool may shrink and become hard.

Alternatively, most of our sweaters can also be dry cleaned but always check the care label first. Under no circumstances should you machine wash or tumble dry your sweater or any other wool product. Remember, when you give your sweater great care, it will last you for a long time.

    A Little Bit About Us

The Sweater Shop is a family-run business that was established in 1986 by Dom Byrne and his sister Breege. Now in its second generation, the company is run by Dom’s son Paul and daughter Laura, alongside their sister-in-laws Kate and Eileen Louise, and cousin Alva, who manages the Galway locations.

The Sweater Shop remains a true family affair, built on a strong sense of heritage and deep-rooted family values. When asked by a journalist from The Irish Times in 1986 what made his shop so special, Dom proudly said: "quality, value and selection" – and that still holds true today. The large selection of superb quality Irish Aran knitwear at reasonable prices quickly became a favourite among both locals and visitors. As a result, the business expanded to include outlets around the country including Dublin, Kilkenny, and Galway City. The flagship store on Nassau Street in Dublin, located directly across from Trinity College, continues to be a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the heart of the city.

From timeless classics to modern twists on traditional patterns, there’s something for everyone in our collection — come and discover your next favourite piece instore or online.
